After serving two years in the U.S. Army, where he honed his writing skills by editing the battalion’s newspaper, he ventured into teaching in a public school. However, Piers’ dreams of being an author propelled him to make a pact with his wife: If he didn’t manage to sell a story within a year, he would surrender his aspiration.
Fortunately, as the year neared its end, Piers’ first short story found a publisher, laying the foundation for his successful career. Today, he enjoys a tranquil life with his wife on their tree farm in Florida.
A Unique Writing Style
Piers made his debut as a novelist with the novel, Chthon, published in 1967. Not only did this book serve as his entre into the literary space, but it also received nominations for prestigious awards like the Hugo and Nebula.
