Meet The Author: E.E. “Doc” Smith
Edward Elmer “Doc” Smith, Ph.D. (1890-1965), was an outstanding American science fiction author, often considered a pioneering spirit of the space opera sub-genre. Beyond his remarkable accomplishments as a novelist, Smith was also a seasoned food engineer.
Smith’s signature style involved the strategic inclusion of plausible technological concepts in his narratives. As an author who loved to push the boundaries of reality without breaking them, he once famously stated, “The more highly improbable a concept is – short of being contrary to mathematics whose fundamental operations involve no neglect of infinite infinitesimals – the better I like it”.
