John Buchan (1875-1940) holds a prominent place in the world of literature as a distinctive Scottish author, primarily renowned for his enthralling novels of adventure. Buchan’s fame is largely attributed to his classic novel, ‘The Thirty-Nine Steps’, which later served as a muse for Alfred Hitchcock’s film adaptation, ‘The 39 Steps’. Richard Hannay, the protagonist of this novel, features as a significant character in four other novels by Buchan and makes minor appearances in two others. After his ceremonious state funeral in Canada in 1940, his ashes were returned to the United Kingdom.
