An Intriguing Biography of Roberto Ampuero
Roberto Ampuero is not just any Chilean author, but a distinguished editorialist and diplomat too. His intriguing journey commenced with his initial novel, ¿Quién mató a Kristián Kustermann?, thereby introducing his riveting persona, Cayetano Brulé, as a compelling private eye. Apart from his engaging role as a writer, Ampuero further enhanced his career by serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile from 2018 until 2019.
His personal life is just as vibrant. Roberto tied the knot with Margarita Flores in 1974, and together, they began their life in Cuba. Although their union ended in 1977, Roberto remained in Cuba for another two years, where he pursued his interest in Latin American Literature. Such a scholarly pursuit led to the acquisition of his B.A degree.
Interestingly, Roberto then moved to East Germany, where he dived into Marxist education. He pursued his love for literature in West Germany from 1983, where he began writing fervently.
Today, Roberto makes his home in Iowa, where he contributes to student development as a professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa.
