The Life and Works of Naomi Novik
Known for her intricate fantasy novels, American author Naomi Novik has carved a niche for herself in the realm of historical fantasy and alternate history genres. An avid reader from a young age, by six she had already delved into the world of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, and by seven she had discovered her fascination for Jane Austen’s works. Given her childhood love for literature, it’s no surprise that Naomi pursued Comparative Literature at Brown University, followed by a Master’s in Computer Science from Columbia University. Post-graduation, she dipped her toes into fantasy video games, designing and developing the popular ‘Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide’. However, it wasn’t long before she realized her heart lay with writing rather than programming.
Naomi Novik: A Unique Writing Style
Naomi made her debut as a published author in 2006 with ‘His Majesty’s Dragon’ (published in the UK as ‘Temeraire’). This marked the beginning of her much-loved Temeraire series. Novik’s unique blend of history, myth, and fantasy, accompanied by intricate plotlines and well-drawn characters, immediately drew the readers in.
