About the Author: Anita Brookner
Born in London in 1928, Anita Brookner is a renowned author best remembered for her Booker Prize-winning novel, Hotel du Lac. She received her B.A from King’s College, University of London, and furthered her love for art with a Ph.D in Art History from the distinguished Courtauld Institute. Also, expressing her expertise, she served as a reader in Art History at the Courtauld and was a lecturer at the University of Reading from 1959 to 1964.
Brookner established a significant milestone by becoming the first woman to serve as the Slade Professor at Cambridge from 1967 to 1968.

Brookner introduced herself to the literary world in 1981 with her debut novel, A Start in Life (alternatively known as The Debut).
